Prescott Fond Blanc

Well, I finally got a ripe one! It was the first and by far biggest fruit that set. I smelled it in the garden today. It looks very pretty and everyone is oohing and ahhing over it. The flavour is good but not great, which might be attributable to the heavy rain we had on Friday night. Would anyone here disagree and say 'no, that's just what it tastes like'? Joe, Winnipeg

Thats hard to say, since I don't have slice to try.

I grew this melon this summer. It certainly was very, very aromatic, and I loved the look of the fruit. The taste was fine, but I wish it was a bit sweeter. Quite possibly the low sugar level was the result of harvesting it before the optimal ripeness, a common malaise among newbie melon growers like myself. I would say it was somewhat like cantaloupe. Overall, it's a grow-again.

I grew melons this year and noticed that the taste was much sweeter during the drier portions of the summer than the rainier portions. True!
