 o
Landreth Seed Heirloom company needs our help....

Posted by burntfingers none (My Page) on

The Landreth Seed company, one of the US's oldest, is in financial trouble due to a combination of (what else) the economy and an unfortunate run of bad luck. It is urgently hoping to raise enough money from catalogue (or seed) sales to pay off a loan and prevent the company from being shut down. Time is very short.

If you've used their seeds, or gone to any of their sales, or if you just believe that preserving heirloom species is a good thing, you might be interested in today's article at www.headbutler.com... And on Landreth's Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/LandrethSeedCo?sk=wall.

I'm hoping this message hasn't violated any rules, I'm posting because this seems to be something GW folks would be interested in. I have no connection to the subject matter (other than having ordered catalogues from the company.)

I forgot to mention that the catalogues are $5 each (essentially pre-orders for the 2012 catalogue), and the company is also taking donations thru the Facebook page.

The story of what's going on is on the HeadButler site.

If you can help, please do!

Here is a quote from the home page of the Landreth Seed Co. website:

"Since 1784, the D. Landreth Seed Company has been providing its customers with one of the most extensive selections of fine lawn and garden seeds in the world. Our founders introduced into the United States some of the most beloved flowers and vegetables known today including the Zinnia, the white potato, various tomatoes, and our own Bloomsdale Spinach. We have become the oldest seed house in America because we are passionate in our quest for excellence in quality, service and innovation."

Landreth Seed Co. is in danger of closing it's doors. Anyone who is concerned about preserving heirloom seeds, small businesses, and an historic part of American agriculture can help to save this company by buying from them. They have a beautiful catalog, many historic seeds, excellent hand tools, and a nice selection of gifts. Please take a moment to visit their website, landrethseeds (d0t)com
and if you have the means, to support them if you can. They are part of the foundation of what Heirloom Gardening in America is about. And please send this link to your gardening friends who may not read these threads, or "Like" them on Facebook. Help make history by preserving it with technology.
