Baby hellebores

I bought some hellebore seeds (fresh) online around september last year....( I think it was september)
The instructions I had were to plant in deep pots immediately and leave outdoors until the first few frosts.
Then bring into a non heated place that won't freeze and watch for germination.
On germination , bring inside , transplant and grow under lights all winter.
I did that but have no growing lights so have been making sure they were near a sunny window that gets a lot of sun, and left them in the original pots.
My problem is that I got 3 different varieties and I have a huge amount of babies that I have yet to transplant .
Today I decided to transplant some into biodegradable pots but the roots are longer than the pots.
I did transplant about two dozen of them but had to wind the roots around a bit.
I am not sure whether or not to leave the rest in their pots until I can transplant them directly into the ground.
They have three leaves and the roots are growing straight down.
Any suggestions on the best way to save them?
They look very healthy and the roots are not intertwined .
TIA

| If you pot them up are you going to be able to keep them all in the sun? Ideally, you'd pot them up into their own deep pots. But, that said, I've left my babies crowded in large, deep pots until I could get them into the ground with no harm done. Seems like if the individual pots are too small, what is the point? How soon can you put them into the ground? I've been moving my seedlings out side into dappled sun on 40 plus degree days and bringing them back in when it falls below 40 at night. |

I think it will be at least another 5 weeks before I can get any into the ground. It is currently snowing here and the temperature is around 1C. I have transplanted one lot of the babies and there were 53 seedlings . Currently they are in my sun room and get plenty of sun when there is any. Will start taking them outdoors as soon as my temps get to 4C which is 40F. Thanks for the tip. |
