Hellebore planting

I recently moved into our newly built home and have had a friend (landscape designer) draw up a beautiful plan for our (soon to be ..I hope) garden. He has drawn in about 30 Hellebores Of which I purchased today and will plant soon. My first question is , the garden area gets afternoon sun. and these seem to be shade plants...I have read other posts that say they will do well in the afternoon sun.... please say its really so!! I love them so much... second question. My husband is determined to lay landscape fabric and cut little holes to plant each plant (and there are quite a few including 60 assorted hostas 21 ferns and 7 daphne odora (will these plants do ok in the afternoon sun also) .....does this sound like a good thing to do? Will the Hellebores re seed with the fabric? will the hostas multiply? any advise would be appreciated.
