I had no idea what a hellebore was until Saturday. Im new to gardening in general and just love the foliage on this plant. A local GW member gave me 2 different kinds. I have no idea which they are and must email and ask again. I didnt know there were soooo many. I would like some advice on how and where to plant these and if anyone has any extra neat looking ones to share I would love to trade for some.

Welcome to hellebores. There are many different kinds, and you are fortunate that you can grow virtually all of them in your zone. A few of the species and hybrids are somewhat tender. The foliage and the flowers are both variable. As you may know, many different colors are available these days, particularly from the hybrids. I hope you enjoy your hellebores. They really are wonderful in many aspects. |

Thank you and Im sure they will make me very happy. I have been given a plant and I wonder if it may be another type of hellebore. Its about 2 feet high, has no leaves untill you get to the top of the stalk and then its leaves are in sort of an umbrella or whirly gig fashion.....anyone know what it may be? Tessa |

| Sounds like a variety of H.foetidus. They are doing a lot of hybridizing with this plant and there are many, many varieties of it, but they all share that same 'umbrella' leaf structure. |
