how to pick a planting site?

I have several plants in pots that I would like to put into the ground. They were grown from seed that I got on the exchange, so I don't know what kind. About all I know is that they like shade (part sun, too?). I have a concrete patio with a tall privacy fence around it. The sun it gets is overhead sun only. The planting area is about 1 ft. wide between the fence and patio. There is already a succulent ground cover in part of it. Do you think this would be a good place for the hellebores? this is a new house and I haven't planted anything, myself, yet. I am now in zone 7, just moved from zone 8.

hey, I live in zone 7 Georgia too. My hellebores orientalis do really well at the edge of woods. Mostly shade - a couple of hours of sun near the middle of the day, but no direct overhead sun. I'm not a hellebore expert by any means, but I think they need to be in shade in zone 7 GA.

I'm in zone 7 - northern Alabama. My H. x hybrids do well in a couple of hours of midday sun and shade the rest of the time. Make sure they have enough moisture when you first plant them. Laura

Partly shady anyhow and plant on a sloping site if possible. Most of the blooms face downward and lots of babies will pop up below. Brenda
