I know nothing about hellebores, except that I think they are beautiful, and I understand they can do well in shade (which is my situation). So, I'd like to get some hellebores for my yard. I'm not sure when their blooming season is, so .... when is the best time to plant small hellebore plants, or otherwise, to sow seed for totally new plants?
Tx! |

| Seed should be sown fresh (typically April-June) for best germination. I move my H. x hybrids all year round with no ill effects, but watch for dry summer conditions for new plants. Laura |

Jest a word of caution. The outside seed capsules has a severe skin irritant in it. so if you are planning on collecting the seeds yourself , like from a friend's plants beware. Thanx for listening and keep 'em plants growin' Lois |

| Tx, Hellebores are beautiful, we are all learning about hellebores. Helleborus x hybridus in NYC would flower sometime in late February, early March.....though I do not really know. Planting seed, you need fresh seed, or seed that has been stored properly. Planting seed or transplanting should not be of any problem for your zone. I am in USDA zone 5 and my hellebores have just pushed out a flush of new growth. Still Gardening, Bruce |
