This is a momentous week. On Monday I received a seed trade containing seeds labeled as Helleborus x hybridus, two different packages, two different colors. I stashed the seeds in the fridge while I figure out what to do with them.

Today's mail brought me a lovely gift including two 3" plugs of H.x nigercors 'White Beauty.' These I plan to pot up (trade gallons, or larger?) and bury the pots in a nursery bed for the winter.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,
Donn

Welcome to the wonderful world of hellbores, donn! You'll find they are just as addicting as your passion for ornamental grasses.

For information on growing and propagating as well as an excellent overview of the genus as a whole, you'd have to look hard to find a better source than the website developed by one of our regular posters to this forum, Joseph Woodard. It is a superb presentation and should provide you with all the info you need to develop your habit rapidly :-)

Here is a link that might be useful: jgwoodard's hellebore website

Thanks, gg48. That's a very informative website. I was directed to another one, Sunshine Farms, which is also very good. The guy who runs it refers to himself as the King of Hellebores, and has a photo of himself in king garb on the site. Reading the site is very entertaining, and he has a fascinating plant list in addition to Hellebores.
