Saffron from spring-blooming snow crocus?

Posted by jd111 CA (My Page) on

Does anyone know if spring blooming snow crocuses produce a quality saffron? Premium saffron is made from fall-blooming crocus however I have heard that all 80 species of crocus produce some type of saffron...

Thanks for your help!

I'm no expert, but from what I've read, the answer is NO. Here's an article on Saffron. There are different varieties of Crocus Sativus, however.

Here is a link that might be useful: Saffron
