I've been ordering from Gurney's since childhood. Sadly, they no longer seem to offer the kids' variety seed packet for $0.01 (but it must be your VERY OWN MONEY!)...I can't tell you how many times I carefully taped my VERY OWN PENNY to that order form. Ah, those were the days. I think they may have been bought out by one of the other big seed/nursery companies a few (or several?) years back.

I trust them well enough, but they don't carry anything exotic. I'm still growing oregano that came from seeds I bought from Gurney's about 30 years ago (my current plants are re-seeded grandchildren, I think).

Thanks Leira. If I can't find the French tarragon locally at a nursery I can trust, I'll probably order some from Gurneys. I'll just have to find some other stuff I can use from them to justify the order....darn!

Chuck, see if you can get a copy of their catalog. They usually have a "$25 off a $50 order" coupon on the front. Yes, I know, that just means that you'd need to find even more to order, but 50% off is pretty attractive.

Also, in their later Spring catalogs (probably starting with the next one, at a guess), they usually have a big section of "our choice" plants, which are at steep discounts, so long as you let them choose the variety. So, you might be able to get "June-bearing strawberries," but you won't know the specific variety. When you combine this with the 50% off coupon, it's an extremely attractive deal.

Thanks again, Leira. I think the catalog I have has that discount offer, the $25 off thing anyway. I was planning to put in some strawberries this year, so with that and a few other things I may be able to hit $50 without getting too much stuff I wouldn't buy anyway. The wife can probably find some flowers to add to the order, too.
