I haven't tried mint in a hanging basket. I have grown it in containers for years.

Last year, I added oregano to a mixed container, thinking it would trail over the sides of the pot. It did trail, but wanted to go toward the sun, so it grew outward, more than trailing down. I decided to try growing Oregano in a hanging basket this season. I think maybe it will get more even sunlight and hopefully look nice. I will put it in a large hanging container because in our zone, the potting mix will dry out easily in mid summer. A small container would require too much attention to keep hydrated.

One way to find out.....

I tried mint in hanging baskets last summer, and it did very well until the weather got so hideously hot that it was (literally) worth your life to go outside. If I had any shade where I could have moved them they probably would have thrived. I'm going to try again this year, because I love mint but don't want it everywhere.

As a follow-up to this post....I tried the mint but when it got BRUTALLY HOT (like Texas does), I didn't water the mint daily or twice daily and it died. This year, I have it growing in a pot on the patio where there's a bit more shade. I'm going for sedum this year in the hanging pot.

In brutal heat you're still going to have to water containers even for succulents or move things out of hot sun so they don't cook. I even have to do that in cool and wet NY State.

There are regional forums. You may try asking questions about what other folks from brutally hot places do. I usually have less than a dozen days at 90+ degrees F a year so I can't give any real heat suggestions. ;)
