Ours (echinacea purpurea) is coming up now. Pretty small still, three or four leaves showing. It usually pops up in March.

Once it is established, echinacea is very hardy. We have never lost a plant, even with several years of serious drought. I started them all from seed years ago. So don't lose patience.

You planted seeds or plants? That wasn't clear. If seeds, wait longer. Seeds need to sprout and grow.

If plants, same as when most of the other native cold hardy plants start peeking through the soil for your location.

Ahhh so it's still a bit early to see them green up. OK. I planted small plants last fall and have kept them watered & protected,etc...I have bought some seeds and will grow more for my gardens. I guess these are just slow poke's, huh? I'll take that over being dead. Thanks!!

Funny but when I checked yesterday afternoon-they were growing new leaves! Thanks!

I am always amazed at the speed of change in the garden this time of year. Yesterday, our Azaleas were just beginning to form flower buds. Today, 24 hours later, you can clearly see the color of the flowers that will like pop out in just a few more days. If they wait that long. Every one around here knows the Azaleas are supposed to be polite enough to wait and bloom the day before beginning of The Masters Golf Tournament :~).

I have a question, too. I live in AZ. Should I plant my seeds in fall or spring? I'm assuming fall.

Most echinacea, require winter weather to break seed dormancy so fall plant. E. purpurea is the only one I know to sprout from spring planting but it too can be fall planted.

I'll give it a try this fall. We keep having extreme heat mixed with normal spring temps right now. I think I've missed my spring time planting window, except for heat lovers, like okra and basil.

Fall sounds like a better bet then. Winter sowing is an excellent seed starting method for most of the echinaceas.
