Comfrey will grow from seeds, sown in spring or autumn. Sow seed at 20°C, if no germination within 3-4 weeks, move to -4-+4°C for 2-4 weeks. It prefers moist soil, in a large, deep pot (it is a tap-root that can grow down a metre or more) or in the garden and is not suitable for growing indoors. Soil should be rich in nitrogen and have a neutral pH. If allowed to dry out, the leaves will die very quickly. Roots may be mulched in severe winters. Its own leaves make an excellent mulch.

I'd be careful with seed grown comfrey. It might be a spreader!! Root grown type is easier to tame.
