Basil by Seed

I have found really contradictory information online and I just want to know, will my basil seeds need light or not to germinate. I'm in college and literally have like no spare window areas for light so I'm hoping they'll pop up just with the light from our room, yes?

they will come up without light but will need it immediately after coming up...

They may sprout for you, but I don't know if they'll thrive. Here in Savannah, Georgia they go crazy in direct sun all summer long. Can you add a plant light anywhere for them? They're really sun-loving plants and I'm afraid you may be disappointed if you don't have sunlight for them. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I've set up a grow light (hanging it with twine which probably isn't the best idea but didn't know what else to do...lol) and this morning I woke up to find 5 little sprouts! I can't wait for the purple basil.
