Except for a couple of concrete containers, all mine are plastic pots. They're about all I can afford. I'd prefer terracotta, but they're expensive, and here in the subtropics, they dry out too quickly in our fierce summers.

I use terra cotta for all of my containerized plants. I've collected them over many years, and continue to find them for very little at flea markets and thrift stores.

I plant my herbs in good old Mother Earth!

But when I do container something, it is terra cotta or plastic.

Me too ~ clay (terracotta), or plastic. I buy tons of clay pots very cheap at one of the local home decor potteries. Walmart also carries clay pots at a decent price. They do require frequent watering, as they tend dry out quickly in the sun. But it looks very nice, and will last forever...

Terra cotta or clay pots do not survive north of the frostline very well. Winter will totally trash them in a few seasons if left outdoors. Something to remember if planning to leave pots out year-round.
