mints need light!! little direct sun, a lot of indirect light. They are like parsley and celery when it comes to the amount of light.
I only know of ferns growing well in deep shade.

The area I'm thinking has sun but not all-day sun. It does get a bit of shade during the day though. I just wondered which variety will take more shade than others (besides Corsican) without becoming too leggy.

That amount of sun is sufficient for mints, cilantro, parsley, chives, tarragon,...in zone 8, if you have real hot summers.
