Kents Beauty Oregano

Sorry I'm a novice with some herbs. I got 2 Kents Beauty oregano plants on clearance late in season last year. They were gorgeous, a plant I felt was grown more for decor then anything. I wasn't sure they'd come back this year, as they were serverely potbound/etc when I got. And needed the "right soil". They are slowly starting to show new growth, tiny but surprising (in good way).

My question, this is "oregano" but not the type I'm used to for culinary usage. Can it/is it still as good as the plainer oregano's in terms of cooking? Or is this more of a decorative herb?

I've no experience with it but the overall opinion I see is that it is pretty but not as flavorsome as normal oregano.

FataMorgana, THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking the time to respond. That's what I guessed (but don't know)... that the pretty factor outweighs usefullness factor...
I did learn from these forums oregano is perennial, learn something every day. Lots of years it was grown in planter and disposed of. THANKS SO MUCH!!

Glad to help! Be sure to stay or pop back here from time to time. There is always something to learn. I've been a plant "nerd" since I was a kid and I learn stuff pretty regularly here.

It is nice to have variety, if possible. I have Greek Oregano, which is very flavorful, perenial and gets bigger by layering itself. I think I have had some other kind(varigated, small leaved) before but it did not come back the following year. Some oreganos are like marjoram, which is annual here.

I definitely want variety this year. An added bonus is I hear deer don't like herbs. As deer were quite... umm, active...(?) this year, the more herbs, the better...
