Perilla frutescens is the botanical name for shiso, the perilla used in asian cuisine. It comes in both green and red/purple varieties.

Magilla is an ornamental version - probably edible. Although please don't eat leafy greens straight from the garden center. A couple of years in a commercial greenhouse taught me that. Also sometimes an ornamental version of something is edible but not tasty.

I have that Purple Perilla it grows everywhere I started it from cuttings.
