tiny red bug on mint plants

i have these tiny tiny red bugs on my mint plants that i use for tea. first i see little black eggs on the tops by the stem and going out onto the leaves. i then start seeing these tiny red bugs. last yr i couldn't use any of the mint since it was covered. this year they are starting to spread to other plants that are near or touch the mint. does anyone know what these might be? thanks! gill

Spider mites. Neem spray can help

Mites have such soft bodies that a good hosing should take care of most of them. Could be aphids too, which a hosing can take care of as well. If they are aphids, you should also notice some ants hanging around the area as well.

It's worth mentioning that aphids are often found without any ants hanging around.

Spider mites, gill, are sooooo teeny teeny that they can be difficult to see. Are your critters that small, or a bit larger than that? I'm really thinking that you have aphids, just as sparrowhawk suggests.

Do a quick google of aphids and tell us what you think.

Gill, I found your question while trying to ID my red pinhead beetle-y creatures. I Finally ran across the FOURLINED PLANT BUG and as of today my growing-up bugs actually resemble some of the photos. They favor mint but will spread to LOTS of other plants. Google them, and check various sites. GOOD LUCK!!!
