Rosemary bush hit by last winter storm-

I live in Queens NY and have this great rosemary bush that has been growing for about 7 years and has always been very very full with rosemary. this last winter here in NY we got slammed with snow and ice and ice and snow - its the first year where i thought this thing was dead. but its alive - except all the living parts or green parts are very high up on the bush - im wondering is there a way to promote the growth to push downwards again ? how can i prune it so that i get a full bush again rather than the current state which is a branch of about 2 feet and then the green is on top. I mean the growing season just started so not sure what will do for the season but if there is anything i can do to promote this - it would be great to know.

See where the empty branches are - those were all filled with rosemary for years - making the plant totally awesome ... any way to get that all back? This year all the stems on those braches died they were all brown and needed to be cut.

I can't believe your rosemary survived in Queens - the warmth radiated by surrounding buildings probably raises your growing zone a bit.

I don't think there's anything that can be done about the lost branches. Fertilizing with something like hollytone may help to promote general growth.

Yea tell me about it ... That bush was the envy of the neighborhood ... I wish I can promote the downwards growth again .... Maybe I will just start another bush

My rosemary were decimated by this past winter and they were doing well for several years, including a very, very snowy one a few years ago. This winter was just too extreme. Bay laurel also took a hit but probably will recover as I see green beneath the stems. You might wanna look for Rosemary ARP, cold hardier to zone 6b. I have since replanted. I am not happy mine got hit, but it was getting really big and sprawling in a small plot.
