The plant may try to push more seed heads, but those will be greatly diminished in size and number.

I simply love the big umbel flower heads - lovage, angelica, etc. I've never chopped them off my lovage so I can't tell you how it will respond. I once read you can get another year or two out of your angelica by chopping off the flower heads before the flowers start to really start to grow. Didn't work for me and I ended up missing my favorite part, the flowers. Now I just start them from seed when I need to reload the gardens with angelica.

After reading the article about the Lovage seeds (German article) I went out to check - perhaps I had missed an umbrel - but nope they were all gone. Hope you are right and I get at least a few small umbrels. I am sooooooo in love with Lovage right now. My new herb for 2012 is Chervil. Can't wait for it to grow up.

Could you share the resource for what to do with the lovage seeds?

I just love the lovage in rice salads in spring for that unique fresh taste of greens. I only wish it would remain tasty all summer long, but I appreciate spring all the more for lovage in the garden.

I am not sure they say what to do with the seeds but they write that the seeds can be used in cooking.

SEEDS!!!!! The lovage plant has pushed up another seed head! Thank goodness -- now I will get to taste lovage seeds.

My lovage has been perennial, so you probably have no worry at all. By the way, the seed taste is STRONG. I made a lovage liqueur which was so strong I couldn't even taste it. But I love my lovage, sometime I'll try again.
