I've had bronze fennel in my garden for four years and love it for the look and butterflies. Unfortunately, it does not seem to love me anymore. I had big second year plants that I needed to move to make room for my peppers. When digging and moving it, I noticed my skin stung slightly, but not enough for me to pay attention to it. Three days later, I was covered in large blisters and deep red welts everywhere the fennel had touched. Luckily, it does not itch (thank goodness!!!), only hurts a little. My doctor gave me a heavy-duty steroid cream that is helping. Unfortunately, it still *looks* really gross.
Has anyone ever had this happen or know of someone who had it happen? I've worked with fennel for years and never had a problem. Is this a one-off situation or am I now doomed to remove (carefully) all bronze fennel from my garden? I'm wondering if the second year plant is the problem.
Thank you!
