Transplanting basil

I bought a large sweet basil plant at the farmers market last Saturday. It came in just a plastic pot, and kept getting knocked over by the wind, so I brought in overnight and put back out the next morning. It gets about 9 hours of sun each day. I want to transplant it from the round plastic pot to my long green window box, but am new to this and can't find any good info on the topic. My question is how do I properly transplant this fully grown basil plant whose roots are all wrapped around up and down from growing in this plastic pot? Do I slice the edge of the roots to spread them out like one site suggested? Or do I just put in window box as is like another suggested? I don't want it to die!
