Sweet mint went woody

I have a large leafed sweet mint in a clay pot that was doing well (planted this spring).
Last month I went away for 2 weeks and moved it from it's partial shade location to a full sun one to take advantage of auto sprinklers while away.
It lived there for about 4 weeks total and in that time the once soft foliage has gotten stiff, the stems are darker and sort of woody, and it has sent out runners.
I've moved it back to its original location.
Is there any way to restore it to it's original condition?
I'm unsure whether to pinch tips (it's gotten leggy)
Or just chop the whole thing down by a third.
Also should I try to get rid of the runners?
Fertilize?
Thanks in advance!
