It may root just by pushing a long stem into the soil and then waiting a month and snip it off from the main plant

I stuck an Arp rosemary cutting in some good potting soil and it took root without any hormone. It looked like it was dead for a few days then perked up again. You could try that. The cutting I used wasn't even from a fully mature plant.

I have always found that with woody plants like rosemary, a heel cutting is more reliable, and faster to produce roots. It helps to dip the cut end into pure honey - better than hormone powder or gel.

I guess I will try some of each and see how we do. I really like how the rosemary is doing and looking out in the devil's strip, and of course, the small is great.

I cant seem to have rosemary last through winters here. Thyme is another very fragrent herb and its doing quite well in my yard.

Rosemary will not grow in the ground if it's in an area where the ground freezes which sounds like where you are. Where I am, Zone 9, it grows as a large hedge and is green year round. I've had rosemary for years.

Thanks for the info on using honey as a rooting medium. I don't like to use strong chemicals as in the other methods. Am thrilled with the honey info. Am planning to start some rosemary cuttings tomorrow, as a matter of fact.

Use honey in the same way as you would use hormone powder or gel. Simply dip the cut end into the honey.Just the bottom of the cutting, so that the honey covers the wound. That's it. Then plant the cutting directly into the ground or potting mix.
