too late for planting seed

I found some basil, borage, & arugula seed. I'd especially like the arugula & borage to mature enough to reseed itself.
is it too late for this year? if it is i'll just sow the arugula & borage this fall for next year.

You can definitely sow the arugula. It's very fast maturing (around a month or so). I would say it's probably a little late for basil but it's worth a shot. Not sure about the borage.

Borage will be fine. It's a hardy rampant self sowing annual. If you sow now it may overwinter as a small plant and flower next year.

Borage will not overwinter in zone 5, but it certainly will self seed. I would guess it would set seed prior to winter, depending on how early your frost hits.

I would throw the seed down. There's a perfectly good chance some of the seeds would wait til next spring to sprout anyway.
