Removing the leaves by pruning will slow down the process of root regeneration. Here's why: the leaves are THE factories for making the energy (food) the plant needs to make new roots. Photosynthates are sent down through the phloem to the roots as soon as they are manufactured in the foliage.

Also, there are hormones located in the outer growing tips of plants that help regulate where the energy is directed to. Remove those tips by pruning and the result will be reduced root growth but more top growth. That's NOT what you want right now. (We all know that pruning creates new top growth, right?)

This is true for just about all plants, by the way. Pruning should never be done at transplanting time, under most normal conditions. It's very counter-productive for the plant.

I've been trying to get you to focus on the potting medium/root system. Honestly and truly, providing a porous, fast-draining potting medium will encourage lots of new roots to form rapidly. Very rapidly. I wouldn't lie to ya.

I believe the potting medium is actually good because the plant is making very good progress imo, it doesn't wilt anymore when in the sun (it only gets about 1.5 hrs a day so no worries about letting it die)! I believe that I'll leave it alone for a while until it gets it rooting system back on track :)

So how will i know when its done recovering from its root damage?

Continue to expose it to more sunlight, slowly. Whatever you do, do NOT over water (meaning too frequently). Allow the plant to dry out a bit between waterings, which should be a thorough drench. Let your finger tips judge when the soil is drying out.
