drying herbs

I have been drying herbs(catnip, chocolate mint, and mallow) in a various ways (dehydrator and paper bag dark dry place)all this season. After they are dried I put them jars (jelly jars, cherry jars - but with new lids) within 2 or 3 days they smell funny- sorry I can't even describe the smell. At first it happened to the mallow and I thought it smelled that way because it was mixed with mallow flowers. I removed the smelly catnip out of glass and back in paper bag and it went back to smelling like catnip. Any suggestions of what could be the problem?

Just a guess here, but are the lids tightly closed? I put mine in glass jars with breathable tops. But I live in a dry climate. Try not putting a lid on them or use cloth or coffee filter with a band to hold it on. If that does not work try cleaning everything with hydrogen peroxide.Good luck, gloria
