Help-my basil is turning black

Posted by Jannie z7 LI NY (My Page) on

I have basil ghrowing in a container. It rained twice in the last week, plus its been very hot and humid. The basil leaves have lots of black spots. Is this from excess moisture? If I cut off the leaves with black spots, all I'll have left will be stems.

sounds to me like mold... try spraying it with cool chamomile tea.

That's exactly what it is. Some of mine is doing it too. We've had a lot of rain recently.

I'm no expert, but could it be related to mold?

Just tried this . . .

Do a google search on "basil turning black" - I think you'll find your answer. I tried to copy and past a URL for you but this system won't let me.

RE: Help-my basil is turning black

ALL 6 of my basil plants are turning black. They are in the ground. There was a horrific rain all day long a week ago. It has been in the mid to upper 90s since. Each day my basil plants turn blacker and shrink up. I see where everyone seems to think this is mold. But WHAT DO I DO ABOUT IT. One person suggested spray with tea. How do I do that? I have picked off the leaves till there is hardly anything left. Is there any hope? What is my next step. I have searched the internet and can't find the answer.
