I may have answered my own question. While searching on the web, I found pics of wild oregano or marjoram, which looks very much like the pics I listed. I'd still like to hear your thoughts and/or anecdotes on this lovely herb. thanks.

I would say it is marjoram. Have you tried eating it?

Thanks for your reply. No, I haven't eaten it yet, I was waiting for some confirmation before doing so. I have some in the fridge and I'll take a taste. It smells great.

If it is wild oregano, it will self seed all over the place. I thought the flavor was ok. Pink flower heads dried nicely for dried flower arrangements but I didn't want it taking over the yard so I pulled it out. I originally planted the seed. For oregano I purchased a good Green oregano plant and have been happy with that.
