Make sure the light, soil, and moisture levels are the same or very similar in the new location. This may not be as necessary for the wintergreen as for other plants.

I would move the plants during a light drizzle, almost a mist. Preferably near dusk.

I've moved some woodland plants in the past and this seems to have worked. If the plants were growing under hardwoods, I plants under my oaks. Those growing under pines went around my pines. Just try to duplicate the natural conditions.
