Saving thyme & rosemary seeds

Hi,

I'd like to try and save Rosemary and Thyme seeds. It seems that most people recomment propagating these plants by cuttings or division, so there does not seem to be much information on how to do it. I'm interested in trying the seed route in any case.

Is there anything specific one needs to know to harvest seeds from these plants? How does one know when the seeds are mature, and what is the best time to harvest?

Thanks
Neilen

P.S. I'm in South Africa, so it is early spring here now.

The seeds are mature when dry and released from the plant - which means that unless you're quick you'll have trouble catching them. Once the flowers are over and you're sure they've been pollinated you could tie a paper bag around the stem to collect them.
