Some people use cuttings from basil to start new plants. Search back posts in this forum for info.

I have never tried to do cuttings or to transplants but anything is worth trying once. I do hope you have more than one plant as I do not know how well they do transplant. I like to have a few plants so I can let one go to seed as the seeds that you harvest from those plants are so much better than any you will get from a seed company. I would water very heavily a few days before you dig so the soil is not too dry and make digging easier and less change of disturbing the roots of your plant.

Thanks to both of you for your response. I have transplanted two of the plants into pots, one in clay the other in plastic to see if the pot makes a difference. It has been a few days now and they still look good. Until they get established I am keeping them in partial shade and will then move them to the greenhouse to see if they will over winter.

Wally1936 thanks for the suggestion on the seeds I will be sure to plant a few of them.
