Has anyone tried planting this herb? Kindly share any advice ...

I managed to get myself some seeds.

Thank you.

RE: Planting perilla

It is easy to grow and reminds me of basil culture. I started my seed indoors in a soil germination mix. I transplanted the seedling to the garden where they are thriving.

chervil2: Thanks for replying :)

I am planting some basil now too... but mixed success :-/. The new leaves on my sweet basil is coming out really wrinkly and thin, not smooth & broad. Not too sure what is wrong here...

But my cinnamon basil seems to be doing pretty well so far.

So I hope my perilla will do well :)

RE: Planting perilla

Soaked some perilla seeds in water for about 10 hours... and they germinated about 2 days later.

Seems like they are 'invasive'? And may cause diarrhea?

Invasive..yes, I never planted it...and was still pulling it up after 15 years of living in a house! Avoid like the plague unless you really really like eating the stuff, nothing else will.

RE: Planting perilla

dbarron: Thanks for the warning! But... 15 years??? :O

I am planting mine in a pot, so I hope that would mitigate things & make it easier to get rid of.
