Spearmint vs Chocolate Mint: Spreading habit

Just an observation post.

My spearmint is about 2 months older then my chocolate mint and yet the chocolate mint has started to devour the entire top of the container. It's amazing how much of a difference these plants of the same family can have among varieties.

The crop output of both plants seemed to be on par with eachother. I noticed that the spearmint plant only put out about 2 or 3 runners above the rim, while the chocolate mint put a dozen or more, plus dozens inside the container that got caught and encircled the perimeter. I have harvested all the runner in both plants that did not attached firmly back into the soil at the runner end.

The one you have , seems to be more invasive, as it crawls ans spread, also through runner lateral roots.

Spearmint is more manageable b/c it grows upwardly and only propagates through lateral roots.
I Personally, like spearmint over every thing else I have come across with.

Chocolate mint is wonderful when chopped up and added to a brownie mix. I enjoy adding chocolate mint leaves to hot water to extract the flavor and then refrigerate to enjoy as a healthy and tasty beverage.
