Sage and mint pestos

I would like to make a pesto using sage to freeze for use this winter.

However, most recipes call for the addition of garlic, parsley, nuts and cheese, along with olive oil.

I would like use only olive oil and sage. Are the other ingredients really necessary? I would be using it as a flavoring only.

I have made basil pesto using only basil and olive oil and this tastes fine, so I wonder if anyone else just uses the herb and oil only.

Also, does anyone do this same thing with mint using only the mint and oil?

I would of course, be freezing this as well.
