If there is a lot of leaf/damage loss, let the plant recover before harvesting. If it is minor, harvest as you wish but no more 1/3 of the living plant material at a time. Holes may be unsightly but will be unnoticeable when the leaves are dried and ground.

The poppy seed things are probably poopy so shake or wash off before drying.

There's a small caterpillar that gets on mine now and then. I don't know what the adult stage is but a BT spray usually takes care of it.
