Repotting mixed 'herb garden' container

I was given a planter with quite a few overcrowded and root bound herbs. As a beginner gardener, I'm comfortable repotting plants that were originally potted separately... however this has about 8 plants that have grown together (including an obnoxious spearmint that is now 3 plants instead of one).

How do I go about separating these plants?

I'd like to take the spearmint, peppermint, thyme, sage, rosemary and lavender out and put them in their own containers. This would leave the basil and parsley in the pot (4 plants, two varieties of each. Also potential for them both popping up again next year). The pot is long and narrow, about 18 inches long by maybe 5 inches wide.

I did a search and came up with nothing about separating the plants, but if you can point me to appropriate posts that I missed that would be awesome too. Help! lol
