bringing basil indoors?

I have some large basil plants... first year growing these and I learned they are very hardy. I snipped off a top once and stuck it in the ground and it grew into a beautiful plant... SO! I'm wondering, can I bring some of these indoors to keep them over the winter?

Basil is an annual and grows for one growing season. I've heard of people taking cuttings and starting those to stretch out its life.

I always plant new seed come spring so perhaps others that try to keep it going can other advice.

I brought one in last year and it got bugs really bad. I think they were spidermites or something like that. I ended up throwing it right out the backdoor...pot and all. It died a snowy death :)
