I'm not sure I understand what the dilemma is. What purpose would be served by pulling the basil? If you leave it and it is destroyed you can pull it then. If you leave it and it survives you will continue to have basil. On the other hand if you pull it before the storm you will certainly not get any more basil and will never know if it would have survived. And then of course there's the possibility that the storm won't materialise at all .....

Try to panic AFTER the forecast storm. Unless it's of epic proportions (hurricane, cyclone or whatever), most plants will survive. I don't believe it's the end of the world if you lose a few grapes or tomatoes or basil plants. I don't see much point in cleaning up a mess BEFORE it happens!!

Thanks for the reply, after thinking about it I am just going to leave basil alone, if damage occurs I can always make pesto and freeze. Unfortunately not the same for grapes. In mendo and Sonoma co there are thousands of acres not picked, hard rain right now will decimate the crops.
