Growing mint indoors

Hello folks,

I got 3 big mint plants from a friend of mine. These plants grow really well in her garden but when I put them in the pot, the leaves started turning black. After a month, almost all leaves turned black so I cut the plant. Now, even new leaves are turning black. The soil used is Scotts potting soil (http://www.scotts.com/smg/catalog/productTemplate.jsp?proId=prod10270008 from HomeDepot) This plant gets morning sun and little bit of afternoon sun. The soil is little wet at the moment (due to unexpected rain and the pot sitting outside) and I am trying to dry it out by not watering the plant.

Can anyone give me idea why these leaves are turning black. Is this wet soil responsible for it? Basil in the next plant, same soil, not that wet is growing pretty well.

If wetness is the issue, any way I can dry it out (without replacing the soil)?

Thanks in advance
