Leaves versus flowers - st john's wort

I have a st john's wort plant that is well past the flowering stage (it is October in New York) bur the leaves are green and still 'doing well'.

I am thinking about drying the leaves and using them either in tea or possibly mead (fermented honey wine).

Do the leaves have medicinal value on their own, or are the flowers necessary?

If dried "leaves alone" are useful what would you recommend as a quantity for use in tea (assuming an 8 oz cup)?

Thank you
