| I planted Dill from seed about a month ago indoors, its very small now and I moved it outdoors. Its very warm here now in Southern California so I put it in the shade. He suddenly flopped over and is looking like its not going to make it. HELP! What did I do wrong? Should I not have moved it out because its too warm? Can I save it??? |

They don't like the extremes of heat and yes the transition may have been to abrupt. I had the same problem with some lettuces when it hit over 90 after it had been mostly 70s for a few weeks. You might try bringing it back in and take it out in the cooler part of the morning for a few hours of filtered sun and a little more each day. If you are staying in the 80s they will likely want to go to seed and not give you much green leaves. October is when I start Dill here (cat knocked them over:( but heat waves can still be a problem some years. Happy Growing David |

| Dill is a very easy plant to start via direct sowing outside. You could also try starting some outdoors as well. I find direct sown plants to be far more tolerant of temperature changes. Dill also likes it cool. Find a place where it will get sun but not get baked. Maybe early day sun in your location... FataMorgana |
