Green soil residue, indoor planters

Hi all,

First post in the forums here. I'm starting to grow basil indoors under lights (T5s) for the first time (have grown basil indoors before, just never under lights or at this time of year). Anyways, I'm noticing a green residue on the surface in a couple of my planters. I used a standard potted plant mix, one Miracle Gro and one other brand. No fertilizer yet.

Is this residue (in the attached picture) something to be concerned about, and how to manage/eradicate?

It is due to too much moisture and the green stuff is probably algae.
You need to keep the top dry. Also, maybe not enough light and temperature is low.

Thanks for the feedback, algae makes sense here. I do have drains on these planters and didn't think I overwatered (once a week)... I may get a dehumidifier going down there since it's a bit moist in that room, maybe that will help the situation.

Definitely enough light, but true that temps are relatively low down in my basement.
