Berries and Cream Mentha

Does anyone grow this? I bought a plant from a local food co-op last year. Everything I have read about it says the leaves taste "fruity". To me they just have a sharp menthol flavor, with more of a camphor taste than peppermint. I've tried to contact the seller to find out if it was possible she might've sent me the wrong variety, but I cannot get an answer from her. There were no flowers this year so I can't say what color they were. But can anyone tell me if it sounds like I might've gotten the wrong variety and possibly what variety it might be? Thanks, Ilene

RE: Berries and Cream Mentha

Mislabeling is a common enough and that is possible. But conditions in which a plant is grown can impact flavor too. And although I've got an excellent sense of taste and smell, none of the flavored mints I've tried taste like their supposed flavor to me. They just taste minty. And I don't think it is just me. We see this complaint fairly often. I suspect that some people are just more sensitive to those other flavorings and some people not.

But in the end, I would suggest trying a different vendor. See if those plants offer the taste you seek.
