I've planted a peppermint from the grocery store several times. They arre plain peppermints but quite good. They are usually a little battered when I first get them, in tiny pots and meant as "living herbs" for the kitchen but they've always lived and thrived.
I'm betting these are similar to the shop rite herbs.

Does it taste of peppermint? That one's quite easy to identify by the flavour. Over here it would more likely be spearmint if sold for culinary use e.g. mint sauce, raitas, tsatsiki, North African recipes, cocktails etc. Peppermint would be sold for tea rather than cooking.

Hard to see exactly what it is. Looks like spearmint or peppermint. I'm leaning toward spearmint.
