Rosemary question

corpus

Hi,

I have a rosemary bush, a creeper, actually, over which nasturtiums have grown. I didn't cut the nasturtiums back; they were both under apple and quince trees and were/are companion plants to them both.

In the spots the nasturtiums were not covering the rosemary, the green showed through. I imagined the rest would be growing reasonably happily beneath the nasturtiums. I didn't check the situation, either. Until recently.

To my horror, the beautiful rosemary, previously cascading over rocks, was now brown and dry.

Given that there are signs of life here and there, what are the chances that the rest will grow back? Should I cut it all back (I'm obviously not expecting the now brown bits to turn green again)?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help (I won't mind if it's all bad news - well I will, but I'll be strong).
