I have never been able to grow anything from seed unless I winter sowed or direct sow in the garden.

I get volunteers because I do not cut the flower heads off of my Hercs after they bloom.

This is just a thought do you think you would have better luck if you put them in pots outside and sprinkle the seeds on top and let mother nature do the work and not have to try to dampen off because they are growing from seed to plant outside?

I used a ProMix PGX with Biofungicide this past winter to start all my seeds in and had absolutely no damping off. I think every seed I planted grew and now I have hundreds of heuchera seedlings to transplant.

I wintersow mine in milk jugs, then in the spring I pot them up in 4 inch pots and grow them on till fall before planting out to the garden. Our pacific northwest winters are usually mild and I had no losses after planting out. I had casualties in the spring when I potted them up, but still had enough to plant out in the fall.
