Are there diseases etc. that threaten heucheras? I started planting hostas because I thought they would be problem free; then I started reading the forum. The list of hazards is long. Am I in for a nasty surprises with heucheras as well? Voles? Slugs and snails? Viruses? Nematodes? Forewarned is forearmed.

Leaf Miner and foliar nematodes. Rabbits in my yard have been known to each my heuch's. Not had any slugs in mine, even when a next-door hosta was chewed to bits/ |

| For me, pill bugs. Rarely a rabbit nibble and we do have rabbits but they aren't that interested. Pill bugs are an issue for me.. I put Ortho Bug Geta Plus (must be Plus) around the base about once a month. |

| Here in the PNW I have severe problems with root weevils. They eat all the roots and the plant dies and you can lift it up like a toupee. |

Hmmm. Not totally trouble free are they? Cindy -- what do pill bugs do to them? Chew holes? Jan |

| Something chewed holes in one of my Palace Purple heuchera, but it grows so fast,I just cut out the damaged leaves, and you can't even see it any more. I think it was caterpillars, because I've seen some around this year. Phil |

| Rust, root weevils, snails and deer. All of these are inescapable in the more rural areas of the PNW. |

| Deer! My nemesis. Last fall, as I was putting the garden to bed, I was shocked to find the *%#* deer had come for the heucheras for the first time--in the ground and in containers. They have come back this spring but now I have to add them to my Liquid Fence list. Buy their stock if they ever have any...I'm keeping them in business. |
