Your Rootbeer looks great (love that name). I am in Zone 5a so much colder than your zone. I typically do not do anything special for winterizing heucheras. Fortunately even for my zone, they stay evergreen (almost). I also do not apply extra mulch or any special protection. Just leave them the way they are. I have not lost any over the last few years.

I do nothing at all. They are evergreen here so there is no cutting back or protection needed.

I do not do anything for them other than to keep fallen leaves away from them, as slugs use them for cover to munch away all winter here in the Pacific Northwest.

Do you cut them back in spring? Im in central il, and mine (plum pudding, silverscrolls,berrysmoothy) all stayed evergreen from the mild winter. first winter with them :)
